Approaches to  help you live life with purpose

~Individuals, Couples, & Families~
I have expertise in a number of approaches, and will adapt my approach to each situation and person. The following are an overview of some of my therapeutic approaches.

Solution-Focused Therapy

Solution-Focused Therapy helps you work toward your goals in a very effective, purposeful, and intentional way. Solution-Focused counseling looks for solutions and doesn’t tend to dwell on dissecting the problem. Together, we’ll find unique, possibly overlooked strategies to help you overcome life or relationship challenges.

Cognitive Behavioral Family Therapy

The most common issues between parents and their kids arise due to poor communication, intolerance, role confusion, power struggles and/or a mutual lack of trust and understanding. Using the exact same parenting style as your kids get older often does not yield positive results — you’ll just exhaust your energy and become the angry, bitter, controlling parent you don’t want to be. This approach is especially useful for these issues. It is a very active approach that focuses on helping parents reclaim strength and for kids to rebuild trust, freedom, and validation. With this approach, family members learn their own and each other's red-flags, how to effectively deal with misbehavior and dishonesty, and find ways to bring love, mutual trust and respect, and fun back into the family.

Gottman-Informed Couples Therapy

Couples get themselves in a rut in a number of ways, whether it is because of communication difficulty, unmet needs in the relationship, trust concerns, or life stresses. Together, we will determine what is getting in the way of a healthier relationship and develop specific solutions to break through those challenges. My approach is very active, intentional, and purposeful. You will receive new tools to try each week which will help replace old habits and allow for a healthy, happier connection.

Mindfulness-Based Therapy

Picture...but first, Love Yourself
Today’s world is so full of distractions; news, sounds, tweets, beeps, posts, pictures … no wonder people find it difficult to concentrate or focus on one thing for more than a short while. Most importantly, all these distractions keep up from connecting to the people right in front of us! This hectic pace of life creates stress and unbalance.

Jon Kabat-Zinn defines mindfulness as “Paying attention in a particular way: on purpose, in the present moment, and non-judgmentally.” Bringing mindfulness into everyday life is effective not only for managing stress, depression and anxiety, but also for physical conditions including pain, high blood pressure, improves brain function, promotes cell restoration, slows the aging process, and increases overall well being.  Incorporating mindfulness-based techniques into our sessions, equips clients with how to bring mindfulness to stress patterns and discover counterbalancing techniques that will elicit your relaxation response when you need it the most.

Not ready for couples therapy

But feel like you need a tune-up instead? If you’d like to get a pulse on your relationship– an assessment which measures the state of your marriage – take an assessment online with a special link setup just for you. Relationship Checkups are based on the 9 principles of Sound Relationship House created by Dr. John Gottman. Check out my Gottman Relationship CheckUp page for more information.

In my years of experience as a practicing marriage and family therapist, I have come to realize that it is easy to lose our sense of self and purpose in our fast-paced way of lie.

Therapy is a practice that gives you a safe environment to discover your purpose and meaning, live with intention, and to uncover you and your loved one's true potential.

While we can’t change difficult situations of the past, we can work together to better understand and resolve challenges in your life. By applying evidence based-approaches and techniques, we will unearth long-standing behavior patterns or negative perceptions that may be holding you back from experiencing a more fulfilling and meaningful life. In addition to the approaches listed above, I may also incorporate aspects of mindfulness, dialectics, and expressive arts into treatment. Do not let fear and ambivalence hold you back!

Whichever modality(ies) we use together, my mission is to tap into you or your loved one's needs, strengths, and areas of growth so that you can live a life filled with purpose, meaning, and intention.

Symbolism of a Tree

A tree is a symbol of antiquity and immense and enduring strength. A general symbolic meaning of a tree can be interpreted as protection. A widespread symbol of the tree is the tree of life, it's body rooted in earth with its crown dancing in the sky. A tree is symbolic of nurturing energies if it is a fruit bearing tree. More tree symbolism and symbolic meanings of the tree represent...a recovery from illness, ambition or wishes fulfilled, having to do with family, blessings, good fortune, stability, shelter and security. - Presley Love
